The weather forecast for today was for more of the same, so I pulled out of camp at 6 AM while the temperature was about 60 degrees. There was an interesting combination of smoke, haze and fog. The mountains were barely visible, but still there:

Partway to Arlington, I rode past the Oso landslide area. The slide occurred in March 2014, burying 49 houses and killing 43 people under tons of landslide debris that came across the river. The highway had to be completely rebuilt, well away from the river.

At Arlington I turned onto the Centennial Trail, a paved trail that runs from the Skagit County line to Snohomish. It is one of the nicest bike paths of the entire ride. Lots of people were out for morning walks and rides – before the day would get too hot.

For the last night of the trip, I am once again taking advantage of Warmshowers hospitality. I don’t think I could have done this ride without Warmshowers!
