The Lake Erie Connector provides an alternative to the main Northern Tier route, avoiding Indiana, Illinois and the entire Chicago area. Looks good to me! The ride is along the north shore of Lake Erie, through miles and miles of farmland. I will be riding in Canada for about 250 miles, before crossing into Michigan on a ferry at Sombra, Ont.

The route enters Michigan at Marine City and continues northwest to Wolf Lake, Michigan.
Then I “transfer” to the North Lakes set of maps. There are several choices of routes across Michigan. On the advice of people familiar with Michigan, I will take the route to Ludington and then head north along the Lake Michigan coastline to Mackinac City.

From Mackinac City, I will cross the bridge (can’t ride my bike, so I need to get a ride), and continue across the Upper Peninsula from Escanaba.

West of Iron River, Michigan, the route crosses into Wisconsin at Nelma. From there, it continues west to Osceola, where I will cross into Minnesota and continue on the Northern Tier section 6.

Glad to hear it is going so well Judy. I summer camped on Torch Lake as a kid at YMCA camp. We polished Petosky fossils! Don’t forget to look up Tim Block in St Paul. He lives on Grand Ave not far from Jay Hill’s historic home. Hope the wind is on your back and your tires never flat. See you in Winthrop!
