This section will talk about the route across Massachusetts, into upstate New York, and across New York to Niagara Falls.
The Adventure Cycling Northern Tier route starts in Bar Harbor, Maine. It crosses into New York from Vermont, which is too far north for me, since I will be coming from Boston. So I will meet the Northern Tier in Boonville, New York, just west of Adirondack State Park.
I worked out a route across Massachusetts using RidewithGPS. I was able to find campgrounds and motels, and find roads that are reasonably OK for bicycling.
The maps below show the routes for the first three days of the trip, followed by the route for the following 3-plus days, which will bring me to Boonville and the Northern Tier route.

Once I get to Boonville, NY, I will be able to follow the Adventure Cycling map across New York and into Ontario near Niagara Falls. For about 90 miles, I will be riding on the Erie Canal bike trail.
At Fort Erie, Ontario, I will continue on the Lake Erie Connector route towards Michigan.

On to the next section: Ontario – Michigan – Wisconsin
