Adventures in North Dakota! I had a mishap with a road closure, which added 3 “bonus” miles to the day, and required quite a bit of clean-up. But I don’t want to talk about it.

Once again, the dark clouds were following me but did not rain on me. The temperatures for the day were in the 50s and 60s, nice riding temperatures. The wind was there but overall not bad. Looks like it will be about the same tomorrow.

I arrived in Enderlin (population about 850) at around 1:30. As I was riding up the Railroad St., trying to get my bearings, a woman came out of the museum building to welcome me to Enderlin. That’s a first! I went across the street for lunch and then came back to see the museum. It’s got some really nice exhibits showing the history of the town. It’s a railroad town, originally on the Soo Line, which had a roundhouse here for repair of steam engines. Now the Canadian Pacific has the lines and this is one of their division points, so there are still a significant number of people employed by the railroad. 

Satchel Paige played baseball here, and baseball is still very popular. They have three ball fields in town.

Due to the distances between towns, almost all the riders on the Northern Tier stop in Enderlin. Heading west, there no services (= no food)  between here and Gackle, 78 miles away. Heading east, the next destination for most people is Fargo. 

I met three cyclists on the road today, all heading east: a man from Seattle on a supported ride, and a couple headed to St. Paul from Seattle. And at the cafe, I met a couple who are riding a tandem from west to east. They are staying in Enderlin, and I hope to see them at dinner time.
