I left Worcester about 10 AM, 51 degrees, moderate rain. The rain did not let up until I had been on the road about 1-½ hours. By then I was pretty wet and cold, so I decided to cut out some of the little excursions that Ride with GPS was sending me on, and just stay on Rte 122 towards Ware. I was doing well until I had a choice of Rte 32 or 67, and I decided on 67, which was the wrong choice. After climbing some hills – with nice views – I figured out how to get to Rte 32 towards Ware. From Ware, the ride was on Rte 9, so that was easy.
The countryside is pretty and the weather did improve as the day went on. From time to time, there was even a little bit of sun. The wind was out of the NW all day, at 12-15 mph, so at times it tried to push me back down the hills. But overall, it was not a big problem (especially compared to the day last summer in Alberta with the endless headwind).
The weather is supposed to be much warmer over the next few days – which will be a shock! I guess I will have to adjust.
